TIP OF THE MONTH: Keep
up with new notions!
The Quick
Ripper ~ this amazing little
zoom-ripper makes short work of miss-sewn seams and will even rip out machine
embroidery. It runs on one AA battery. As with any sharp seam ripper, be aware
that if you are not careful you CAN rip your fabric! $21.95
Seam Fix
~ for the 'low-tech'
customers, or you who want something simple and awesome. This ripper has a very long, sharp point to
make catching those tiny stitches very easy. Notice on the opposite end of the
ripper is a rubbery 'honey dipper' sort of shape that is used to rub away the
little eyelashes of thread left behind after your seam is ripped. Priced at
$6.95 you can buy several because you know we can NEVER find the seam ripper
when/where we need it! $6.95
Bohin Glue Pen Refills
~ Working with the
Creative Grids Double Wedding Ring templates designed by Judy Niemeyer, Judy
recommends using the glue pen to make sewing the curves a breeze. Refills are
vailable, too. Pens $2.68
each
glue pen refill

Thank you ladies!
KITCHEN
KORNER
Have you ever tried Pizza
on your grill? If not, this summer is
the time to give it a try! Use your
favorite dough recipe or buy frozen dough.
Roll it out and lay it directly on your grill rack. Let it cook until the top begins to
bubble. Take it off the grill, turn it
over and add your toppings. Set the
pizza back on the grill with indirect heat, close the lid and cook until the
cheese is hot and bubbly! We love the
ease of cooking pizza on the grill. We
also love the smoky flavor we get by using a charcoal grill. Very easy and great tasting!
ROASTED VEGGIE ORZO

Tree City Quilters Guild,
Meeting minutes May 13, 2013
Meeting called to order by
Jim Rawdon, President.
Welcome to guests Bev Owen
and Vicky Bailey. Carolyn Jackson was
welcomed as a new member.
Treasurer reports current
balance of $2164.64
Laura Noletti shared that
former member Billy Mayfield’s daughter passed away and asked that we send cards
to Billy.
OLD
BUSINESS……
Janet McFarland announced
the next pillowcase workday will be Sat. June 22 from 9AM to 3PM at the
Church. Bring a sack lunch and snack to
share. Sign up sheet was placed on the
table. She also reported that she and
Jeri had made several calls to local agencies and are putting together a list
for distribution.
Vicky gave us a report of
the recent quilting retreat.
Expenses were $4763.17 and
income was $4125.00 so the guild was responsible for the balance of
$638.17. That is well under the allowed
$1000 for the retreat. There were 25
participants and of that 20 were guild members.
An evaluation was completed by each participant and on a rating of 1-5
nearly all were rated 4-5. There were
many compliments and comments for the next retreat.
Sara Bistline has
completed the quilting for the 2014 raffle quilt and Bonnie Krueger will be
binding it. We can then begin selling
raffle tickets.
Jim Rawdon asked for a
list of those making dining scarves for Westview Manor and asked that we bring
what we have made to the June meeting.
NEW
BUSINESS…..
Jeri Fickes outlined a
proposed Kids sewing program for 2014.
Teach kids to make a quilt
– possibly middle school age
Our guild purpose is to
promote quilting – this fits that criteria
2-3 day workshop to make a rag
quit
She has checked and we can
use one of the schools
The federal lunch program
would provide breakfast and lunch
Her vision is to have a
group of 15-20 with a guild mentor for each
participant.
She has calculated the
expense for the project at this rate of participation and it could cost around
$750.
Grants available thru
NEROQ for $300 – deadline July 1st – Jeri
will apply. Grants also available thru NQA - deadline Oct. 15th – she will
also apply there.
We need a
committee.
Laura Noletti motioned
that we move forward with the project applying for grants and requesting members
to become involved in a committee to put the class together. Pat Hall
seconded.
Sign up sheet for the
committee was placed on the table in back.
Pizza box challenge. Those participating picked up the pizza boxes
and will complete another border and return them to the next
meeting.
Program – Sally Kitchen is
very ill and was not able to present the program on small sewing machines. Barb Byler got together a program on antique
quilts and several members brought quilts and shared a history of each one. It was a delightful program enjoyed by
all. Thanks Barb for coming thru at the
last minute.
Show and
tell.
Meeting
adjourned.
Refreshments.
Respectfully submitted,
Janet McFarland, secretary
