HAPPY  HOLIDAYS from Marilyn . . .

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, we are headed into December and the rush into the Christmas holiday is upon us. I hope you have some time to consider the blessings of your family and your friendships as Christmas draws closer. I hope you have made some good friendships in the Tree City Quilters guild and that you will plan to celebrate those friendships at our annual Christmas Party on Monday, December 9. Remember that dinner starts at 6 p.m. Bring a covered dish to share and your own beverage. Table service will be provided. The challenge is a “Christmas Stocking” and the gift exchange, if you want to participate, is a gift up to $20. If you would like to participate in a Christmas game, bring 12 2 ½” X WOF strips.  There will be a brief Show & Tell for items you will be giving away as Christmas gifts. Please save other items for our January meeting. If you have any questions, contact someone on the Christmas Dinner Committee: Heather Weekley, Ruth Bishop, Jolene Rehm, and Lola Franks.  Don’t forget that your 2020 dues, $20, needs to be turned in to Judy Malloon at the December meeting. If you will not be at that meeting, please mail your check to Judy  at 4374 Deer Creek Dr., Wooster, Oh  44691 before the end of 2019. We must receive your dues by the end of the year in order for your name to be included in our Membership Directory.

Congratulations to our 2020 officers: Marilyn Nisius, President; Frank Meshew, Vice President; Mary Schultz, Secretary; Judy Malloon, Treasurer; and Shirley Rodgers and Gwen Alaura, Members at large. Kay Nixon has agreed to stay on the Board as the Past President.  If you have suggestions for a meeting or class or activity for next year, contact one of the officers and share your ideas. We will have our first board meeting in January – hopefully before our first scheduled meeting on Monday, January 13. Speaking of meetings, please remember that if Wooster City Schools are closed due to snow or inclement weather on the day of one of our meetings, our TCQs meeting will be cancelled. Even if the weather clears in the afternoon, the building will be closed and our meeting will not be held.

Our last Handwork Group for 2019 will be Friday, December 6 and the first one for 2020 will be Friday, January 10. Join us if you can. Bring handwork of any kind (no sewing machines) and a small snack to share. Contact Sally Kitchen with questions.

See you on December 9. Enjoy any days that come our way filled with snow as opportunities to quilt. That will give them a totally different feeling. Happy Quilting to each of you, Marilyn

November Newsletter

The Purpose of this organization shall be to create, stimulate and maintain an interest in all matters pertaining to the making of quilts; and to establish and promote educational endeavors through quilts.

November 11, 2019 7PM
Parkview Church of Christ
1912 Burbank Rd.
Wooster, OH  44691

 Notes from the President . . .

The November weather report says we will have cold temps – 20s and 30s – at night for the next couple weeks. Cold weather means serious quilting time as well as a season when we focus on being thankful for the many blessings we receive each and every day.
In the spirit of being thankful, I would like to thank Susan Bateman for her very gracious offer to quilt our Quilts of Valor for the 2020 Quilt Show. And also special thanks to Kathy Ott, Mary Schultz, Bev Fash and Mary Lou Nuzum for demonstrating quick and easy gift ideas at our October meeting.
Our meeting on Monday, November 11 will feature a Sew Day in the Fireside Room at the church.  Come any time between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Stay all day or just for an hour or two. Bring a sandwich and beverage for meals or run out to eat. Our regular meeting will follow in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m.
Meeting highlights will be:
* Ugly Fabric Challenge. Bring your creations to share at the meeting. Be sure your name is on the back of the item and turn it in to Mary Schultz or Judy Mallonn no later than 6:45 that night. It will be displayed to be voted on during the meeting.
* If you took Laura’s Labyrinth Walk class in September, we will share our blocks at our November Show & Tell.
* And quilters who went to Cedar Lakes in October, bring your class projects for Show & Tell.

Remember: The most beautiful way to start and end a day is with a grateful heart.
I am so grateful for all of you – Marilyn

The October minutes were forwarded earlier in the month.

CORRECTION: The Christmas Stocking Challenge items are due at the December Christmas Dinner.

Our September meeting held under the portico at the church.  Unfortunately the church was locked and we were unable to get in.  All gathered chairs from their cars and had a complete meeting including Show and Tell.   We enjoyed a pleasant breeze.  Kay presided as Kim was expected to be in Florida but thanks to Dorian that did not happen.   Kim said a tearful goodbye to us and we can expect her at our Quilt Show in 2020.    You will be missed Kim.  Thanks for all your work for the Guild.  Ruth

You should have received several e-mails from me about the Mt. Hope Show.  Tree City has a booth to promote our 2020 quilt show plus several members entered quilts.  The Show is Sept. 5-7.  You can check Amish Country Quilt Festival on line for more information.

Also several guild members will be appearing at the Wayne County Fair, not on the stage in front of the grandstand but in the Grange Rotunda on Sept. 11, at 1pm.  Please come out to support the guild.  Good to see members in the audience.

Please be thinking about the Christmas Party and plan to attend.  We will be having a sign up sheet so we have an idea of how many to plan for.  December only a few months away.
