MACHINE FOR SALE
A Singer Red-Eye Treadle Sewing Machine, Model 66-1.  Born November 3, 1920, serial # G8458235.  This machine is in very good condition, the decals are not worn off and there are no pin marks on the arm of the machine.  It is missing the little metal needle bar thread guide, but sews very nicely without it.  Stitches are nice and even on the top and bottom.  The cabinet is also in very good condition, not missing any parts.  Included with this machine are 2 new belts, 7 bobbins, 5 additional presser feet, plus a seam guide.  The original book is with it, but I also have a printed copy from the Singer company.  Considering the wonderful condition this machine/cabinet are in, I am asking $350.  You may contact me at 330-201-1889 or crhorst@gmail.com.  Thank you!  Carol

We do have a discount rate for groups of  10 or more at $8 per ticket instead of the regular $12 adult rate. Please do not hesitate to contact me for tickets or more information.  Thank you for your help.

COMING SOON; ROUND ROBIN QUILT
Back by popular demand!  This fall we will be starting a Round Robin quilt with everyone in the guild invited to join the fun!  Each one of us will be asked to provide our own fabrics along with the theme, style, and colors we have chosen for our quilt.  Each month the quilts will be exchanged with other quilters who will make a block or blocks.  Instructions will be provided with options for sizes and difficulty of blocks.  Each month, the quilts will be exchanged and the number of blocks will grow!  This is a fun way to design your won quilt using the blocks that friends in the guild have contributed.  As a part of this new round robin, design options will be provided for designing your quilts.  Please begin looking through your stash or selecting new fabrics to use in this new, exciting round robin venture!!
The idea for this activity is from the book “Round Robin Renaissance” by M’Liss Raw Hawley.  It is available on Amazon for less than $10 (including shipping) if you are interested in purchasing a copy.  Our project is in chapter 5.

WHO IS THIS?
We now have a membership of 74 and we gain new members each meeting.  While this is a good thing we are growing so quickly that there are people we don’t know.  Surveys, or short questionnaires are being distributed at meetings and online to everyone.  Please…..fill them out (I do need to know who the information is from) but do not talk about the information shared.  Each month we are going to share this information with everyone and it will be up to you to discover “Who Is This.”  Turn in your guesses to Barb and the first correct answer will receive a small prize.  Descriptions will be shared in the newsletters…..revealing “Who This Is” will be at the meetings!  You can text, call, or email your guesses to Barb.  Good Luck!!
AUGUST “MYSTERY MEMBER”
I have lived in NY, and California.  I have traveled to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and all over the USA.  I enjoy knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and I have won a viewer’s choice ribbon!  I worked as a medical secretary and at one time owned my own shop.
Who Is This?  Send your answers to Barb!!
July Mystery Member was Sue Jusli guessed first by Denise Mohler!  Congratulations Denise!
TIPS AND TRICKS
·         In addition to the usual information, transfer a photo of yourself onto the quilt label as documentation.  Think how much fun it will be years later to see how you looked when you completed the quilt!
·         Make metallic threads less likely to separate by sliding the leading inch or so across a glue stick.
·         Use a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to clean your scissor blades and rotary cutter blades.
·         If you accidentally get machine oil on your quilt top, work some dry cornstarch into the spots to absorb the oil.  Then, brush the cornstarch away with a soft, clean brush.
2015 QUILTY CHALLENGE: “Learn and Grow”
Progress is being made on this year’s Quilty Challenge.  There are currently 18 TCQ members working in the challenge.  If you are a new member; please check with the Hospitality Committee for the Challenge questionnaire.  Once you have checked off everything that you have done in the past, choose 3 new techniques, colors, styles, etc. and start sewing!  You must incorporate 3 new skills/techniques/colors/whatever into either 1 project or separate projects.  They must be completed by December…..quilted and bound…..ready for show-n-tell.  Happy Sewing!

2016 QUILT SHOW CHALLENGES!!
3 separate challenges for you to try!
·         Scarlet and Gray Challenge- Two Categories
o   Quilt/wallhanging - greater than or equal to 240 inches perimeter

Rules- Must be greater than or equal to 50% Red and Gray; You can only use Black and White as the other colors in the quilt.
·         Modern Quilt Challenge
Modern quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design.  Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in different ways, but several characteristics often appear which may help identify a modern quilt.  These include, but are not limited to: the use of bold colors and prints; high contrast and graphic areas of solid color; improvisational piecing, minimalism; expansive negative space; and alternate grid work" (quilting patterns).
For the show, everyone is encouraged to try something different.  Entries will not be disqualified if attempts are made to try something different that could be considered modern.  This is more for fun than to have to adhere to strict rules.  Have fun with it!

Quilters
 A MUSICAL
book by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek
lyrics and music by Barbara Damashek
Based on "The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art" by Patricia Cooper & Norma Bradley Allen
directed by Teresa Durbin-Ames
A heart-warming celebration of American womanhood, Quiltersdepicts the courage and spirit of our nation’s pioneer women. Music, dance and drama transform the harsh realities of frontier life into a Legacy Quilt containing blocks of familiar patterns like the Lone Star, the Log Cabin and the Double Wedding Ring. The pieces of these women’s lives are stitched together with love, laughter and tenderness to tell a story of survival, fellowship and family values on the road West.
