Mystery 2010, Step 2

Cutting:

Accent fabrics:
From each of the 12 accent fabrics cut these:
three 8 3/8 inch squares. Cut these in half once to yield six triangles of each color.
seventeen 2 1/2 inch squares from each of the accent fabrics. Set eight of each color aside for later use.

Piecing the center of the quilt together:

Sew 12 nine patch blocks using your accent fabric 2 1/2 inch squares. Use two different fabrics: four of one color and five of another in each nine patch. Mix the fabrics as you like.

That is all until next month.

FEBRUARY MEETING: Chenille with Barry Jolliff

Have you tried the chenille technique yet? Come and watch/learn as Barry presents this program. It is sure to be fun and informative. Just the right weather for learning a warm and cozy quilting technique!!

In case of bad weather, please check your email to see if we will be canceling the meeting.

TCQ WEBSITE! http://treecityquiltguild.blogspot.com/

Have all of you checked out our new TCQ website?! Thank you, Mary Lou Nuzum for bringing Tree City Quilters into the blogging age! Hopefully everyone will be on soon, if not already. If there are any suggestions regarding what to post, please see Laura and Mary Lou.

STASH TIP of the MONTH

How you organize your stash may be the key to using it. Some suggestions might be to group all your fat quarters in one place. Then, separate your fabrics by color, or maybe focus: such as floral, animals, landscapes, baby prints, batiks, backgrounds, etc. Challenge yourself to use fabric you already have in every project.

AMISH COUNTRY QUILT SHOW

Mark your calendars for April 8, 9, & 10. The show is being held at the Buckeye Event Center in Dalton.

We will have a space at the show to display our raffle quilt and sell tickets and also promote our guild. We need volunteers to be there from 10 - 5 (we could split this into 2 shifts) each day. If you are interested in helping, please contact Laura Nolletti.

MEMBER REQUEST

Last month, Janet McFarland took home donated fabric to make Linus Project blankets. She is in need of homespun fabrics (cotton?) to complete the blankets. If you have some extra fabric and are willing to donate, could you please bring it to the meeting and get it to Janet? If you have questions, please give her a call or email.

TOOL TIME

What is it that stops you from completing a project? Basting does it for me! Hand basting a large quilt means finding the space to spread it out and if that is on the floor…OUCH! My back and knees kill me for days afterward. Pin basting is OK, just hurts my fingers and I’ve never tried the tools to help shut the pins. Then…you have to pull them all out as you are quilting on the machine! Well, I decided to try the spray basting adhesive for sale in the stores. My first project goes to the machine for quilting tomorrow. I’ll let you know how well the spray basting held for me. Have any of you tried this method?

TIP OF THE MONTH

Always cut the largest pieces of fabric in a project first. This is the most efficient way to cut fabric and you will know right away if you are short on a fabric rather than discovering this little surprise at the end of your project!
