TCQ SPRING
RETREAT
You may not believe that
kit is coming, but Spring will soon be here and with it….the TCQ Retreat! What a wonderful time has been planned with
great instructors and tons of fun! Even
if you cannot sew all weekend, plan to attend the trunk show and lecture with
Janet Andrews Saturday, April 6 at 7:00.
You could also come for dinner!
The lecture and trunk show is free for Tree City Quilters. Take advantage of this opportunity and have
some fun at the same time.
SEEKING RETREAT
ROOMMATE
Rose Marie Baab is
wondering if anyone might be interested in sharing room expenses during the
retreat. Yes, any of us could go home at
night but half the fun is staying with everyone and sewing at all hours! If you are interested, please see Rose Marie
at the March meeting. Jim, Kevin, and
Barry need not apply!
TIP OF THE MONTH:
Things to consider
before quilting
- Thread: You have
made the decision whether you are going to use rayon, polyester, or cotton. Now, what color? Do you want the thread to “pop” or blend into
the background? Don’t just lay your
spool of thread on your quilt top to judge the color. The amount of thread color on the spool
influences our eyes and does not give a true idea of what it may look like. Instead, pull thread off the spool and drape
it onto the top.
- Batting; if you
have used dark colors in your quilt and/or backing, please consider using black
batting. Even if your needle is fresh,
you have used the correct batting, and the top is basted well, your needle can
still hit some of the batting and push it through to the back. If you have used white or natural, you will
see all the little bits that get pushed through with the needle.
Do you know which
batting is the warmest? Which lasts
through
many machine washes and
would be great for baby quilts?
Polyester!
Which batting shows off
quilting the best? Wool!
Which batting will
remain strong and full in your quilting pattern for wall hangings and bed quilts? A cotton/poly blend.
It pays to read the
batting packages and know the characteristics of each Discuss it with your long-arm quilter but
you should have an idea which batting is best for your particular project.
