March Newsletter

The Purpose of this organization shall be to create, stimulate and maintain an interest in all matters pertaining to the making of quilts; and to establish and promote educational endeavors through quilts.

March 11, 2019, 7pm
Parkview Christian Church
1912 Burbank Rd.
Wooster, OH  44691

Hello my TCQ Friends,

Are you tired of this wacky winter yet? I know I sure am. Warm, frigid, ….rain, snow…. and then THE WIND! I thought my house was going to blow away! Anyway we are moving into March and hopefully soon we will be enjoying a little warmer temperatures. But this is Ohio, so who knows.

I would really like to ask that all of our Quilters of the Year start wearing your necklace to every meeting. You should be proud of that accomplishment, I know I am. I was told when I got mine the we wear them for the Christmas Party, but I think we should wear them every month.

The church had a scheduling issue with our June meeting and their VBS. So the plan we came up with is to switch the July Picnic to June and I have scheduled the church for our meeting in July. As Marilyn brought up when I informed the board, maybe it will be cooler than having it in July. With that being said, we will finish the Ugly Fabric Challenge for the July meeting. So you get an extra month to really embrace your ugly fabric.

I hope that you all really make an effort to come the March Meeting. I have scheduled Brandy Warthman from Quilts of Valor to give a presentation for us. She seems excited to come and speak with us and it will give us the tools and information we need to complete the challenge for our upcoming quilt show.

Our next quilt show is just a little over a year away! Can you believe it? Seems like the last show just passed. I hope you are all working hard on your projects for the show.

We have another cold week coming so stay in, stay warm and QUILT!

Kim

2019 Tree City Quilters Ugly Fabric Challenge

This Challenge will start at the February meeting and finish for the June Meeting. To participate in this challenge you need to get that one fabric out of your stash. You know the one I am talking about. That FABRIC. The one you saw that you HAD to have. You bought it, you took it home and added it to your stash. And there it sat.

Now you get into your stash to look at fabrics for a new project and you pick up that FABRIC! And you sigh and say “what was I thinking when I bought this?, JUST WHAAAT! It doesn’t go with anything, the colors are awful, its just not my taste.”

Take a yard of that fabric and place it in a brown paper bag and bring it to the next meeting. All of the brown paper bags will be placed on a table. Everyone participating will choose a bag (not their own) and make a quilt using that ugly fabric. The rules for the making of your quilt will be read at the next meeting.
