MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Happy New Year, Quilt Guild Friends!  I can’t wait for our year to begin.  Fasten your seatbelts and get ready to travel through our stash busting year!  Our first stop is Theme Parks!  Prepare to enjoy an exciting ride as we meet Cory Yoder, who used to design fabric for Moda.  She will be selling her books and patterns beginning at 6:35.  Remember that refreshments will be at your individual tables beginning at 6:45; just bring your own beverages if you wish.  See you in 2016!  Sally

CONGRATULATIONS!
To Jane Richardson upon receiving the Quilter of the Year!!  Jane, you do so much for the Guild, we thank you!!

2016 RESOLUTION!
Resolve to begin the New Year with a note to your spouse or friends telling them what to do with all your sewing stuff if/when they are in the position of having to clean out your work area.  Do you want it donated?  Sold?  Specific things given to specific friends?  Make your desires known NOW.

PROGRESSIVE BLOCK EXCHANGE; 5th Month
Don’t forget to return with your completed blocks ready to pick up another box!!   Anyone is welcome to join or start making their own blocks each month.  Just join in.  Any questions, ask Laura at nollettilaura@gmail.com

MEMBERSHIP
December: 49 people were at the Party.   We are beginning 2016 with 62 members in the guild

TIPS AND TRICKS
·         Basic brown: brown is not on the color wheel because it contains all the colors.  Use brown or tan when the quilt design needs contrast or transition but you don’t want to add another color
·         Binding aid: to easily attach quilt binding, accordion-fold the prepared binding strip, put it in a resealable plastic bag, and tape the bag to the front of your sewing machine table.  The binding will feed neatly into the machine without tangling or picking up every stray hair or thread from your floor!
·         Cutting table: to reduce back strain when cutting fabric; use purchased bed risers (lifts) to raise the height of your work surface.
·         January and July: pick these months to refold or reroll quilts in storage, folding them differently each time to prevent creases and excessive wear on the fold lines.

2016 QUILT SHOW CHALLENGES!!
3 separate challenges for you to try!

·         Scarlet and Gray Challenge- Two Categories
o   Quilt/wallhanging - greater than or equal to 240 inches perimeter
o   Other- accessory, clothing or small wall hanging, less than 239 inches perimeter
Rules- Must be greater than or equal to 50% Red and Gray; You can only use Black and White as the other colors in the quilt.

·         Modern Quilt Challenge
Modern quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design.  Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in different ways, but several characteristics often appear which may help identify a modern quilt.  These include, but are not limited to: the use of bold colors and prints; high contrast and graphic areas of solid color; improvisational piecing, minimalism; expansive negative space; and alternate grid work" (quilting patterns).
For the show, everyone is encouraged to try something different.  Entries will not be disqualified if attempts are made to try something different that could be considered modern.  This is more for fun than to have to adhere to strict rules.  Have fun with it!
