PRESIDENT’S GREETING:
Happy Autumn, Everyone! I love the fall and all that comes with it: colorful leaves, pumpkins, apples, and Indian corn! I know we are all breathing a sigh of relief as we are at the quilt show finish line! I am writing this a few days before our show, and I am going a little nuts. Ha! By the time you read this, I know you will be patting yourselves on the back and saying, "Well done!" You can all be proud of the work you are doing for our guild. What a joy to quilt and share it with our families, friends and our community! A special thank you to our quilt show chairmen, Laura Noletti and Jeri Fickes, and to our great committee for all their hard work! What an amazing show it will be!
Last meeting we journeyed to one of my favorite places, Colonial Williamsburg. Thank you to Shirley Rodgers and Kim Panter for doing a fun program on a "Cruise Challenge!" Our September challenge, not to be confused with the "Cruise Challenge," is to use reproduction fabrics (like Civil War fabrics, Downton Abbey, & 30's fabrics) or use brown fabrics - all from your stash. You may add muslin, tan or cream fabrics from your stash to compliment your 12" or larger project. Your item must be 65% reproduction fabrics or brown fabrics. Bring it finished to any of our meetings this year and receive a unique clay bead for your token. Next month, we will camp out at the Smokey Mountains and enjoy the program, "Handmade Gifts, Mountain-Style!" Karen Flemming, Kathy Ott, Shirley Rodgers and several others will be our mountaineer tour guides!
Autumn Blessings to you all! 🙂 Sally
P.S. At our October meeting, Sarah Bistline will have the sign-up sheets for her 2017 committees! Yes, it is that time already. Crazy! Be thinking about what committee(s) you would like to serve on for next year.

TIPS AND TRICKS
· Needle Storage: pin quilting and sewing needles to felt rectangles, then slide the rectangles into plastic sleeves designed to hold business cards. Label each felt rectangle with the needle sizes it contains so you will be able to find just what you need at a glance.
· When designing a quilt, periodically hold up the work in front of a mirror. This artist’s trick will give you a new perspective.
· Instead of using leaders and enders when you’re chain piecing, sew off and onto units of an alternate quilt project you keep next to your machine. Before you know it, you will have a second project pieced!
· Periodically remove the blade from the cutter and carefully wipe away any lint and residue. Take the cutter apart, one piece at a time, laying out the parts in order. Add one drop of sewing machine oil around the center of the blade before reassembling the cutter. High humidity can cause a rotary cutter blade to rust. To prevent this, store your rotary cutter in a cool dry place. Save the packets of moisture absorbent from your new shoes and store your cutters alongside them.
