MEETING:
GIFT
IDEAS; SOME QUILTED, SOME KNOT!
Join me in a
whirlwind of creativity! I have been
making Christmas (and other) gifts for years and have quite a collection of
ideas. What do you have in your
“arsenal”? Let’s compare ideas. I’ll Show-N-Tell some of mine; you bring some
of yours, too!
MEMBERSHIP
DUES
Hard to believe but it is
time to begin looking ahead to next year.
According to our bylaws, membership dues are to be paid by the first
meeting in January to be included in the new directory. However, it is always better to have them
paid and distribute the new booklet in December……so you know what’s coming in
January! It’s time to think about
getting dues collected.
QUILTER OF THE
YEAR
Each year we vote a member
of Tree
City the “Quilter of the
Year”. This honor can only be bestowed
on a person one time. It is at the
November meeting that we vote on the Quilter of the Year. The committee will direct us during the vote
and count the votes. The new Quilter of
the Year is revealed at our Christmas Party.
Please be thinking about the different members of the guild and who YOU
think has best reflected our purpose.
Page two of your booklet lists everyone and their years.
CHRISTMAS
PARTY
Wow! It is not too early to think about Christmas
and all the great quilts you have to get done!!! December 9 will be our annual Christmas
party. The committee has announced that
it will be a pot-luck. There will be a
sign up sheet at the November meeting so you can get an idea of which delectable
item everyone else will be bringing!!
This year’s challenge will
be “Snowmen”. Your project can be any
size and anything related to snowmen.
There will be a gift
exchange with a $15 limit. No one is
obligated to participate in the exchange.
The committee says they have a new, fun way to exchange gifts and it
would be fun if everyone was involved.
Your gifts must be related to quilting in some way.
COMMITTES FOR
2014
Every member of TCQ should be on at
least 1 committee. Our guild cannot
function with out the participation of everyone. There are committees that do not take a lot
of commitment and there are committees that meet several times each year. Please join in and do your part to help make
the guild its best! The following is a list of the committees; see

TIPS AND
TRICKS
Do you ever have an
appliqué piece you want to place “just so” on your quilt top but have no
reference points for placement? I’ve
tried the disappearing marking pens but the lines always disappear TOO
fast! Pilot (and probably other
manufacturers) make what is called a FRICTION pen. They mark and then, with any type of
friction, the ink disappears. You can
use these pens on your quilt tops/appliqué pieces…marking on the right side,
then, when you have everything lined up where you want it, just iron and the ink
disappears!! Buy one and try it
out. I’ll bet you’ll be
amazed!
Have you heard of a web
site called WORDLES? It is this very
cool site where you create a collage of words.
I entered about 28 words that remind me of fall. Then, you choose a color choice, press keys
and the site arranges your words in a collage…kind of like a crossword puzzle
without the lines and work! Print it
out and put it in a frame, or print them on a quilt, or a T-shirt, or on a
…….. I have made one for every season
and have a frame in my entry way that I change every few months. I’m going to make one for quilting, too! Look it up and have some fun!
How do you store your
quilts? Wrapping them in plastic is bad
and folding them up and storing them in a cedar chest or other wooden cabinet is
bad, so what is left? Some people lay
all their quilts on an extra bed so they are flat and cover them with a
sheet. If you use that bed a lot, that
could be a lot of work! How about
rolling them up and storing them in a pillow protector? You know, that zipper case that goes over
your pillows and under the pillow case itself.
You can sew a label on the outside of the case to identify the quilt and
then stack them on a closet shelf. They
are readily available, don’t cost very much and protect your quilts from dust
and light.

Meeting called to order by
President Jim Rawdon.
Three guests were welcomed
– Agnes Steiner, Hannah Miller and Wilda McDaniel.
The treasurer reported a
balance of $1932.53 as of Oct 1, 2013.
Gwen Hoover introduced
guest Hannah Miller who she helped with a 4-H quilt project. Hannah is a member of Country Cousins 4-H
club. She received best of county on her
quilt. She was also awarded Outstanding
of the day at the Ohio State Fair and her quilt was displayed at the Wayne
County Fair. Hannah said Gwen was a
great helper.
Shirley Rhodes, Kim Panter
and Jolene Rehm are putting together this years Christmas party for the December
meeting.
Members were reminded that
we will vote on quilter of the year in November. It would be a good idea to review the purpose
of the guild in our membership booklet to help you decide on who you vote
for.
Jim reminded everyone of
the two challenges for the upcoming quilt show in
2014.
Jim asked if members would
be interested in a “hug” blanket project for chemo patients. Barb Byler suggested that be given to the
community project committee for consideration.
Our program this month was
presented by Effie Troyer. She gave a
very informative presentation on hand appliqué.
Her tips and ideas were well received by all
members.
Respectfully submitted,
Janet McFarland, secretary.
