Hard to believe but it is
time to begin looking ahead to next year.
According to our bylaws, membership dues are to be paid by the first

paid and distribute the new booklet in December……so you know what’s coming in
January! It’s time to think about
getting dues collected.

SHOW
We are searching for someone that has
the skills to paint advertising signs for the guild. These are sandwich style boards, 2 of them,
to be set out for the public. Does
anyone letter or paint? Do you know
someone that might be able to help us?
Please contact Laura Noletti.
Have you begun one of the challenges for the show
yet? Don’t wait too long!!! Inspiration can be found all around you! Challenges for the
show will be
1. A City-scape that could be a city
skyline; a "city" view including a scene from above; a close up of an event or
location, etc. These quilts must be 120 inches total perimeter or less. This
means they must measure 120" or less all around. For example, a 30 by 30 quilt
would be a maximum size square. The measurement of all sides must add up to 120
or less.
2. Shades of Blue - This project must
be at least 50% blue (backing does not count). This perimeter limit is 200
inches. It can be clothing, home decoration, quilt, bag, wallhanging,
etc. Clothing, bags, and other like Items do not have size limits.

TIPS AND
TRICKS
Who among us owns a serger
machine in addition to their “normal” sewing machine? Do you ever think to use it for your quilting
projects? Many of us don’t think to
utilize our sergers and yet we can add to our quilts with this machine. Check out Fons & Porter. Their Saturday, September 28th
show focused on utilizing this marvelous machine for quilting and all that it
can do. I have a great serger and will
be exploring ways to use it for quilting in the very near future.
KITCHEN
KORNER
PUMPKIN
SNICKERDOODLES
3 C flour
2 tsp cream
of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted
butter slightly softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly
packed
2 eggs
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping:
1/3 cup sugar
1 T cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ground ginger
3/4 tsp ground allspice
Sift together the
flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. In a mixing bowl
cream together butter and sugars on high until incorporated. One at a time, add
the eggs, mixing after each addition. Scrape the sides of the bowl. Beat on
high 2-3 minutes. Mix in vanilla and pumpkin. Beat on high 1 minute. Add flour
mixture and mix on medium speed until combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl
and mix 30 seconds. Cover and freeze for 30 minutes, or until dough firms (or
you are ready to make cookies) This batter is very sticky and works best when
you have firm dough to roll balls.
Pre-heat oven to 400* and line cookie
sheets with parchment paper. Prepare the topping by whisking together all
ingredients in a small bowl. Drop 1" balls of dough into sugar mixture and roll
until completely covered. Place on cookie sheets and bake on center rack for 10
minutes. (place waiting dough back in freezer) Allow to cool on the cookie
sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool
completely.

herbs:
2 T thyme, 1 T
minced sage, 1 T chopped basil, 1 T minced Rosemary
Add 1 small onion, chopped fine, and

Using 1 package frozen
puff pastry (thawed) unroll the 2 sheets of dough. Slice each in half
lengthwise. Spread Dijon mustard across each of these dough
quarters. Now cut each of these quarters into approximately 1 1/2" segments.
Spread a spoonful of the meat mixture across each of these segments and roll
them up. Place them on greased jelly roll pan, seam side down. Bake at 375*

Meeting Minutes Sept. 16, 2013
Meeting called to
order by Vice President Jeri Fickes.
Five guests were
welcomed – Beulah Olinger, Cindy McKee, Steve Kitchen, Sara Jewell and Betty
Brook (from Scotland).
Jeri announced that
our grant request for funds from NEORQ for the upcoming children’s workshop was
granted. She will attend the next NEROQ
meeting in October to receive the funds.
These funds will be used to purchase fabric for the workshop. Another grant will be sent this month to NQA
for additional funds for other supplies.
Jeri reminded
members of the upcoming pillowcase workshop Saturday Sept 21 9AM – 3PM at the
church. 300 pillowcases were delivered
to Community Action, Wayne County Children’s Advocacy and Every Womans
House. She read a letter received from
Every Woman’s House thanking us for “partnering with them for the good of the
community”.
Peggy Hodge gathered
together a group of members to do demos at the Wayne County Fair. They were well received – those participating
were Peggy, Ruth Bishop, Gwen Hoover, Kevin Horst, Shirley Rogers and Mary
Green. Thanks to all of you!
Laura Noletti gave
an update of the progress of the quilt show and there was discussion about the
negative affects that the Amish Country Quilt show might have on ours in that
theirs was not very well received this past weekend. Laura asked that each member plan to
submit at least 4 items for display at the show next year. That would give us at least 200 items for
show goers to view. We will have an NQA
judge but it is your option whether to have your project judged or not.
There will be two
classes at the show and it has been decided that guild members may attend those
class free of charge in exchange for an equal amount of hours worked at the
show. Plan ahead !!!
If you haven’t
started already plan to start on the two challenges soon. Those have been outlined in past
newsletters. Letters have been sent to
25 vendors and we will follow up with them soon. Laura expressed her thanks to the committee
and stated that she will have a packet prepared for each member no later than
the November meeting with information regarding the quilt show.
Sally Kitchen
presented our program by sharing her collection of TSMs {toy sewing machines}
and gave us much information about them.
Her passion for these machines was evident in her delightful
presentation.
Show and
tell.
