Wooster, OH 44691

PRESIDENT’S GREETING:
Hey, Quilting Friends, "Sut mae!" That means, "hello", in Welsh! Are you ready for our third stop in our Stash Busting travels?  In March, we will be traveling to Ireland, Scotland and Wales! Hmmmm? Wonder what the March challenge will be?  We had a wild time at our Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans last month and, hopefully, you are now working on the purple & green, or purple and yellow, or purple, green and yellow challenge. This challenge must be made from at least 2 fabrics in your fabric stash in one of the above color choices.  Remember that all the fabric in your challenge must be from your fabric stash.  The item you make should be at least 65% of the combined colors that you have chosen and at least 8" square or larger.  This item (purse, vest, quilt etc...) is due at the December meeting or earlier.  Bring in your finished project to the guild's show and tell to receive your token, which is a sparkling purple/yellow & green glass bead for your token pouch.  At our last meeting, 40 quilters received heart charms for completing the one time challenge of sharing your stash, and 17 members received the elephant charm for completing the theme fabric challenge. "Go raibh maith" or "thank you" in Irish to all who participated! Keep working everyone, and bust that stash!! In March, Marilyn Nisius, Mary Lou Nuzum and I will present the program, Wonderful Wool. "Tioraidh" - that's Scottish for, "Goodbye!" See you in March!  For those who are in need of a fabric stash, please email me, because we want to share our stash with you. If you signed my list at the last meeting, there is no need to email me. Thanks! Sally (sallysquilting@yahoo.com):0) Sally

APRIL MEETING
The April meeting will be an auction to benefit our Quilt Show.  Please begin to gather items into baskets or packages.  What are you cleaning out of your sewing room?

TIPS AND TRICKS
·         Choose the applique technique that you love, and remember that you can alter any pattern to be compatible with the method you prefer.
·         To store an 18 X 24” cutting matt, use a skirt hanger with clamps.  It keeps the matt warp-free and out of the way.
·         A flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth makes a perfect design wall.  Reinforce several areas at the top of the tablecloth with duct tape on the vinyl side.  Cut slits through the tape and the tablecloth for hanging.
·         When ironing/pressing bias seams; let them cool in place after pressing before moving them.  It prevents distortion of the bias edges.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE
Dear Quilt Guild,
Your overwhelming response to making cards during our February meeting, resulted in 96 cards. What an awesome, creative group you are!! Thank you from the Sunshine Committee.

Meeting: April 11, 2016, 7:00 pm
Parkview Church of Christ
1912 Burbank Road
Wooster, OH 44691
PRESIDENT’S GREETING:
Sunny greetings and Happy Spring!  I enjoyed traveling to Wales, Scotland and Ireland with all of you during our March meeting. Didn't you love those castles? Here is a review of the March challenges - There are 2, and you may participate in both or just pick one. Remember that we need to bust our fabric stash to make room for more! :) As always, you have until December to complete them.
1st March Challenge - Use homespun, plaid, or check fabric from your stash (in honor of Scottish kilts) to make an item that is at least 8" square.  You may add other fabric from your stash to make this item, but whatever you make must be at least 50% of the fabric listed above.  The token for this will be a lovely sparkling, multi-colored glass bead.
2nd March Challenge is to use anything from your fabric stash to make a Celtic theme item 8" or larger.  This item must have a Celtic design or block on it.  Celtic blocks are more challenging to make, but there are many free patterns on line, like Quilter's Cache. The token for this will be either a tree of life charm or a Celtic cross charm.
In April, we will be traveling to Hawaii! Ready to do the hula? Lol Well, we may not have time to dance, as we get ready for our fun auction! Remember to contribute gently used quilt related items in good condition that someone will want to bid on, including quilt related services (like long arm quilting or offer to do binding or even a meal). Have them ready and packaged in such a way that says, "choose me!" Make sure to tape a 3x5 file card to each item that you bring in, with your name on the card, plus a description of your item.  This card will be used by the auctioneer.  Try to bring your items in between 6 & 6:30.  Refreshments will begin at 6:30, but will not be at each table.  You may get them from the kitchen serving counter.  Bring your own drink, as always.  Remember to bring in a small contribution to donate to the auctioneer's favorite charity. Get ready to bid and support our upcoming quilt show! See you in the tropics! Aloha! :o) Sally
Auction: 3 X 5 card, 6:30 arrival

TIPS AND TRICKS
·         Remember that wood is acidic and that any fabric that is in contact with wood for a period of time will become stained.  What does this mean to you?  When you are storing quilts, (or anything of fabric)  please do not lay them on bare wood in a drawer or cedar chest.  Use acid free tissue paper (paper is created from wood) When displaying quilts on an old ladder or quilt rack, cover the rungs with acid free tissue or muslin.
·         Store each project you are working on in a large white gift box with a label.  These boxes stack easily in your closet or slide underneath your bed.
·         Having trouble remembering all those great ideas you see for a quilt?  As you are inspired with patterns in carpets, windows, architecture, or nature; take a picture with your phone!  You’ll have the reference handy to keep you inspired and to refer back to as you create that quilt.  Then, when you are asked for the story of your quilt you’ll have your inspiration handy!

Patterns or you can make your own. You can dye wool to get the colors you need.

Mary Mahoney had her class give show and tell on the neck tie purse she taught. Then show and tell for members who did the February challenge and their own quilts.  A bead was given to members who did the February challenge by Vicki. Also a Christmas tree pattern was given for those who would like to put all of their Charms and beads on.
See you at the next meeting April 11 for the Auction.
