April Newsletter

The Purpose of this organization shall be to create, stimulate and maintain an interest in all matters pertaining to the making of quilts; and to establish and promote educational endeavors through quilts.

Parkview Christian Church
1912 Burbank Rd.
Wooster, OH  44691

Hello My TCQ Friends,

Spring has sprung, the grass has rizz. I wonder where the birdies izz. So glad to finally see some warmer temperatures here in NE Ohio. I know we are not out of the woods yet as far as cold and snow. But it is sure nice to see the sun shine.

Carolyn Mann who I know through the Buckeye Machine Quilters Guild that meets in Zanesville Ohio will be doing a trunk show this month of her beautiful art quilts. She uses a combo of printed fabrics, thread art and embellishments to make her quilts and they are beautiful. Please plan to attend and see this show.

As I write this I am getting packed for this years Frills Retreat. Vicky and her committee have put a lot of work into this event for us and I am sure it is going to be a great weekend. I know I am excited to fellowship with my fellow quilters and to have a weekend to just relax and sew.

The 1 year countdown to the next Quilt Show is also imminent. I hope that you are all working on your projects so that we can have another great show. I have many projects in the works, both in my mind and in progress.

Sally is doing a great job and has so many programs and classes going for this year it is hard to keep them straight! I encourage you to get involved. Come to the classes, offer to teach a class. Just GET INVOLVED it is YOUR GUILD.

Have a great day and hope to see you at the meeting.

2019 Tree City Quilters Ugly Fabric Challenge

This Challenge will start at the February meeting and finish for the June Meeting. To participate in this challenge you need to get that one fabric out of your stash. You know the one I am talking about. That FABRIC. The one you saw that you HAD to have. You bought it, you took it home and added it to your stash. And there it sat.

Now you get into your stash to look at fabrics for a new project and you pick up that FABRIC! And you sigh and say “what was I thinking when I bought this?, JUST WHAAAT! It doesn’t go with anything, the colors are awful, its just not my taste.”

Take a yard of that fabric and place it in a brown paper bag and bring it to the next meeting. All of the brown paper bags will be placed on a table. Everyone participating will choose a bag (not their own) and make a quilt using that ugly fabric. The rules for the making of your quilt will be read at the next meeting.

Following from Frank re his class.

During the March meeting we announced that I would be teaching a class on putting together a Get Away Bag and a Carpet Bag on May 4th.   When I was talking to the group, I mentioned that you would not be able to complete this in one workshop.  I would like to change that and say that you CAN finish the Get Away Bag during one workshop and that it is possible to finish either one if you pre-cut the material before hand.

Additionally, a few of you came over to discuss if I thought their older sewing machine would be able to stitch through the many layers.  To answer this, I met with Kay Nixon and we tested stitching through what would be the most layers required to complete the bag (16) on her feather-weight machine.  No problem at all.  So, don't hold back. If you'd like to do one of these bags, sign up today.  Best Regards

I'm sharing some information for our newsletter.  A retired co-worker of mine started a bed and breakfast in Homerville, just west of Lodi.  She has two bedrooms available and a large 'gathering' room that can be used for crafting or other events.  I told her I would share the information with the guild in the event someone may be looking for a 'day away' type location, or have guests coming to the area who need a place to stay.  My coworker, Mary Mennell, has attached a brochure with the information about the B&B that can be shared with guild members.  If anyone has any questions, they can contact Mary directly via email, phone or text.  Phone for bed and breakfast is 330-441-1499.  Thank you. Betty Swartz 330.465.7388

In a moment of weakness, I signed up to be on Wooster Alzheimer's Walk Committee.  To get word out I was thinking of renting a spot at either downtown Market Day or at the community center.  I would plan to sell hand made items.   The downtown is on a Sat. and Community Center on Thursday.  Any interest to help by bringing items to sell?  You would keep money.  My plan is to hand out information on the Walk and encourage folks to form a team.  Fee for downtown is $20...Community Center $5 for each time.  Thanks,  Ruth Bishop  PS thanks for input from members.
