15 Scrap Quilt with May Lou
Nuzum
Mabel Stocker is
organizing volunteers to demonstrate at the Fair. As you know, this is something that Tree City
Quilt guild has done for quite a few years and have attracted members through it
as well. Won’t you please consider
giving a demonstration? It does not have
to be anything difficult. Some of us
have demonstrated a technique, a new gadget, seasonal ideas, etc. It is totally up to you what is
demonstrated. Your demonstration should
be about 20 – 30 minutes long…..so don’t think you have to prepare for a 2 hour
lecture/demonstration! Much easier than
that and positively much more friendly.
Demonstrations will be on
Wednesday and Thursday, September 12 and 13 in the afternoon.

name? You should! Alex has hosted “Simply Quilts” for 11 years
and is the national spokes person for Bernina sewing machines. Lonestar Quilting, LLC is hosting an event
with Alex Anderson on Tuesday, August 21 from 11:30 – 3:00. Tickets are $48.00 and include lunch. The day will include a trunk show, book
signing, exhibit and demonstrations. If

CIVIL
WAR
Did you know that we are in the
Sesquicentennial commemoration of our country's Civil War? That's just a fancy
way of saying it's been 150 years since the Civil War. This commemoration will
last for 3 years. There are some very beautiful Civil War replica fabrics in
the stores. Why not choose to make a
quilt and learn about our country’s history at the same time? Visit a battle field, museum, or historic
house. Learn something about Ohio
KITCHEN
KORNER
Recently I attended a
family reunion and had the BEST chocolate chip cookie I had ever put in my
mouth! It just boggles my mind that
this cookie is enjoyed by so many people and has so many recipes. But, I’m telling you…these were the
greatest!
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
1 CUP white sugar
1 ½ CUP brown sugar
2 CUPS shortening (or 1 cup butter and 1 cup oil-this is
what I use)
2 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking soda
5 ½ cups flour
24 oz. chocolate chips
Beat the white sugar, brown sugar and shortening until
creamy. Then beat in the vanilla and
eggs. Add the salt, baking soda and
flour and beat until thoroughly blended.
Use a rounded 1/8 cup scoop of dough – but it all depends
on what size cookie you want.
Bake at 375 for 9-12 minutes, depending on your oven and
preference (soft vs. crunchy).
HEAVENLY HASH
½ LB. Orzo or Acini De Pepe (rice like pasta)
¾ cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 (15 oz.) can crushed pineapple, drained – save
juice
1 T. flour
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 can mandarin oranges, drained
1 small bottle maraschino cherries, drained
9 oz. cool whip
Cook pasta according to package directions. Remove and drain well. Set aside.
Cook sugar, salt and reserved pineapple juice, flour and eggs. Cook until thick – cool. Add cooked pasta and refrigerate until
completely cool or overnight. Fold in
drained pineapple and mix well. Fold in
cool whip. Then fold in maraschino
cherries and mandarin oranges.
Refrigerate several hours.

The Show is Coming, the
Show is Coming!!! Do you have your
registration forms in to Sarah? Get
those forms emailed into her ASAP!!!
Everyone in the guild should have at least 1 “something” in the
show.
By now, everyone should
have signed up to assist with the show in some capacity. If you have not, please call or email
Sarah. Over the 4 days of the show (set
up and the actual show) there must be 2 hours somewhere where you could
help. Please support your guild and our
mission to educate the public
Members are needed to
assist with setting up the poles on Wednesday between 4:30 and 7:00. Husbands and tall, strong sons are also
welcome! Coincidently, this is the same time you are to bring your quilts in and
drop them off. Judging will take place
on Thursday beginning at 9:00 am. The
committee will be assisting the judge and hanging the show all day. If you are available, please come help! Friday and Saturday members are need to work
the show manning the admission table, watching the quilts in the show, etc.
It is time to set out all
the signs, if you have not done that yet.

Meeting called to order by
Cassie Anderson after we enjoyed a delicious array of fine cuisine. (quilters make the best
cooks!)
Thanks expressed to the
Picnic Committee, Mary Lou Nuzum, Barb Nemeth, Naomi Lance and Pat
Hall.
Ruth Bishop reminded
everyone of the display being set up at the library on July 10th, and
thanked us for participation.
Sally Kitchen announced
that wool appliqué kits will be available for $5 each to be used at the
September meeting when our program will be Wool Applique with JulieMcCoy.
Sara Bistline and Cassie
made the following announcements regarding the upcoming quilt
show:
Boutique applications are available
tonight.
Business cards and brochures have
been made by Jeri
Fickes for
distribution.
Sign up sheets on table for helpers
at the show
Forms for quilts to be
judged/displayed should be turned
in tonight or emailed
ASAP to Sara.
We will begin tearing down at 4 on
Sat of the show, and no
quilts will be available
before 4:30.
