PRESIDENT’S GREETING:
Hi, Quilting Travelers! Hawaiian Islands were breathtaking  - especially that auction!
Here is the breathtaking part.... We auctioned off 130 items and made $1,630!!  Well done, everyone! :) That will be a huge help for our quilt show!  Eli Troyer did an excellent job, making it fun for all of us!  Thank you all for helping, contributing, and donating to this fun event. We collected $91.90 for Eli's charity.

April's challenge is to use floral fabric from your fabric stash to make one item that is. at least 8" square.  You may add other fabrics from your stash to make this project, but it must be made with at least 60% floral fabric.  If you complete this challenge and bring it into any of our 'Show and Tells' between now and December, you will receive a token, which is a colorful, wooden, butterfly button.
Here is a list of the other challenges so far:
Jan. - theme fabric - token is an elephant bead
Feb. - purple & yellow or purple & green fabric (Mardi Gras) - glass bead token
March (2 challenges) plaid or check fabric - glass bead token;
Celtic Theme item for a token that's a Celtic Cross or tree of life charm

In May we will be westward bound to The Badlands in South Dakota! Please bring a "What Was I Thinking Fabric." This is fabric that you have in your stash that you wonder why you ever bought it.  You will not be giving this fabric away! It may or may not have anything to do with our next challenge! 😜 May's program will be presented by Laura Noletti on "Sensational Settings."  See you all next month - Westward Ho!  :o) Sally

TIPS AND TRICKS
·         When planning fabrics for a project, cut a small swatch of each fabric, chain piece the swatches together and label them.  Wear the swatches around your neck for easy access while shopping for matching threads or complementary fabrics
·         If residue from basting spray or a glue stick builds up on your needle, wipe it off with rubbing alcohol.
·         Need inspiration?  When designing a block or a quilt look to architectural features for ideas.  Visit local hotels and take a look at their carpets.  Take pictures with your phone and you will have your ideas at hand!
·         Once you’ve determined the block placement in a quilt, take a picture of the layout with your phone.  Look at the picture to make sure you still love the layout as having a different perspective can sometimes make you see things you haven’t before.  Once your layout is final, refer to the image as you sew to ensure the blocks remain in their desired positions.

PRESIDENT’S GREETING:
Hi, Quilting Buddies! Happy winter! It sure is cold, but there is no better time to quilt!  Let's think warm thoughts as we prepare to travel to New Orleans, our 2nd stop on our Stash Busting trip!  Last month, after visiting Disney, we learned about our first 2 challenges for this year.
1.  Share your stash by bringing in a yard of any fabric to give away to those who do not have a fabric stash.   The yard can be in any form: 4 FQ's, 2 half yard cuts, etc... This is due in Feb.! By doing this, you will receive
a token to put into the yellow pouch that you got last month.
   2.  Use theme fabric (fabric with motifs) from your stash to sew any item that is at least 8" by 8" or   bigger.  This item must be made completely from your fabric stash and must be made of at least 65% theme fabric.  (In other words, more than half must be theme fabric.)  You have 11 months to complete this item, and it can be brought in finished at any meeting for show and tell. You will receive one token for this completed project. This is due in Dec. or before at any future meeting.  If you have no theme fabric, that is ok.  Maybe you will be able to enter next month's challenge!  Quilters, let's bust that stash, because we need to buy more fabric! 😉 Onward to the Mardi Gras! Make sure to bring in your card making supplies
to our Feb. meeting to make fabric cards for our Sunshine Committee! Theme fabric
would be great for this project! See you in New Orleans - I'm thinking super warm thoughts!
Sally

APRIL MEETING
The April meeting will be an auction to benefit our Quilt Show.  Please begin to gather items into baskets or packages.  What are you cleaning out of your sewing room?

TIPS AND TRICKS
·         January is the best time to clean and organize your sewing room/area to be ready for the new year’s projects.  Go through your stash and precut left over fabric into strips and squares.  There are plenty of free patterns to be found on the internet.  Use whatever size strips you have and use up your scraps!
·         To keep track of smaller templates and specialty rulers, use a large D-ring binder and zippered see-through pockets.  Some templates and rulers come with directions and patterns; place them in the pockets as well.
·         Save batting trimmed from a quilt to use as packing material when moving or shipping items.  Or, use it for smaller items such as doll quilts, table runners, coasters, place mats, small wall hangings, etc.
·         Sewing with denim?  Use paper clips instead of pins to hold seams in place.

QUILT SHOWS
Hello Fellow Quilters!
We are getting ready to hang our 14th Sunbury Piece Corps quilt show! We need your help. Would you be willing to email or contact every quilter that you know to tell them about our show? It is going to be on Saturday, April 16th at the Sunbury United Methodist Church from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Our fundraiser quilt this year supports The American Heart Association's "Go Red For Women" -- the women's heart health initiative. We invite you and your guild members to come and enjoy the quilts and camaraderie.
There will be several local vendors and lunch will be available. Along with our display of over 100 quilts, we are planning demos, displays of charity projects, and a showing of story quilts. You will not want to miss our boutique of quilted items. And for the bargain hunters, we will have all kinds of donated fabric and quilt supplies in our “Granny's Attic”. Admission is a $4 donation.
We are located in Sunbury on the Northeast  corner of Route 3 and Routes 36/37. From highway 270, drive up Route 3 through Westerville or from highway 71, use exit 131 and drive 4 miles east on route 36/37. (We are 10 miles north of the Columbus Polaris Road exit.)
For more information, contact us at sunburypiececorps@aol.com.
